A new report has revealed the latest update in WWE’s plans to change SmackDown from a three hour show back to two hours.

On January 3, 2025 WWE SmackDown saw a huge change as the show’s runtime was extended from two hours to three.

According to the latest WrestleVotes Radio on Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, the show’s new runtime has reportedly not been received well backstage despite some early optimism, with several believing the show’s quality has dipped as a result of the change:

“We are told several within the company strongly dislike the three-hour SmackDown format, as those sources feel like the quality of the show has dipped in the last two months.

“Prior to the expansion, there was optimism and belief that some underutilized talent would be able to shine, considering the extra hour. However, that has not come to fruition as of yet.”

Shortly after SmackDown’s first three hour show at the start of 2025, Triple H confirmed that the change to three hours was a temporary move, however, gave no update on when the show would be reverting back to its traditional two hour slot.

Providing an update on an earlier report, WrestleVotes would confirm that SmackDown is “still scheduled to return to two hours come this June.”

We will provide updates on any official announcements WWE make regarding SmackDown’s runtime as they happen.
