WWE star Rey Fenix has commented on his brother Penta’s Intercontinental Championship reign, stating that he would like to “have his chance.”
Penta became Intercontinental Champion on the March 2 edition of WWE Raw, defeating a cursed Dominik Mysterio to win the title.
With Penta retaining his title in a six-pack ladder match at WrestleMania 42, the luchador is now slated to defend his gold against Ethan Page at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Ahead of the May 23 championship match, Rey Fenix took to Twitter to re-share the graphic for Penta vs Ethan Page, writing:
I love my brother, but i will like to have my chance. 🙌🏻 #AN1M0
Following Penta making his WWE debut on the January 6, 2025 edition of Raw, Rey Fenix arrived on the SmackDown brand on April 4, 2025, defeating Nathan Frazer in singles action.
Penta has been showcased by the company with a much bigger spotlight since then, being part of the WrestleMania 41 Intercontinental Title feud, competing in that year’s Money in the Bank ladder match, competing in the Last Time is Now tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent, and winning the IC Title.
While Fenix did face the Original El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41, he was serving as a replacement for Rey Mysterio, and hasn’t wrestled a singles match on a PLE since.
Rey Fenix has yet to win a championship in WWE, having challenged for the NXT North American and WWE Tag Team titles in multi-man matches, and coming up short in two separate US Title open challenge bouts, against Sami Zayn in September 2025 and Carmelo Hayes in January respectively.
While Penta was often seen as the more visually striking of the Lucha Brothers, Rey Fenix should not be overshadowed, with the former AEW International Champion believed by many to be one of the greatest luchadores working today.
Fenix didn’t specify whether he wants a chance to challenge for Penta’s Intercontinental Championship specifically, or just the opportunity to prove himself as a singles champion, but a match with or against his former Lucha Brothers tag partner and real-life brother Penta would be a great showcase for the star, proving to fans who haven’t seen him elsewhere that he is on the same level.
