A legendary wrestler has called Will Ospreay “the perfection of modern wrestling.”
On September 17, Pro Wrestling NOAH celebrated the 25th anniversary of the pro wrestling debut of former four-time GHC Heavyweight Champion Naomichi Marufuji.
To celebrate the milestone, the company presented a first-time ever dream match between Marufuji and NJPW’s own Will Ospreay after Ospreay campaigned for the bout following AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023.
The match saw Ospreay defeat Marufuji in a 23-minute sensational battle.
Speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Marufuji looked back on the match. He stated:
“Ospreay was the only one for this match. I think he is the perfection of modern wrestling. He is a great fighter. I think the word ‘genius’ is appropriate for him.”
Following the match, Will Ospreay suggested a possible dream tag team match with him and Marufuji vs. Jun Akiyama and Eddie Kingston.
On wanting to take every opportunity for any company, Marufuji said:
“If there is an offer, I would like to go. I think it is a way to increase the overall fanbase, and I want to do something that will lead to the future by giving young people of today a lot of experience outside Japan.”
Naomichi Marufuji has made many trips to America over the years, working with Ring of Honor, IMPACT Wrestling, House of Glory and others.
There is no confirmation on when Marufuji will make his return to the United States.
