Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that WWE was in talks with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) over a potential working relationship, with WWE wanting to be the exclusive US partner of the Japanese promotion.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided some additional details on the deal, including how both AEW and IMPACT feel about the reports, saying:

“Something is going on. I don’t know how deep it is. I don’t know if it’s going to be, I don’t know if it’s going to be finalized. Obviously AEW doesn’t want it to happen. Obviously Impact doesn’t want it to happen. New Japan, you know, I mean New Japan is in a weird state right now. This isn’t the first time that calls were made to New Japan, I mean WWE has tried to work with other companies in Japan and they’ve tried to buy many different companies in Japan and they did not succeed in doing so. It’s difficult to do in Japan. The Japanese companies don’t want to sell to an American company.”

It’s unsurprising that AEW doesn’t want WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling, with Tony Khan cutting a scathing promo on social media towards WWE and the company’s President Nick Khan, which you can check out by clicking here.

There are actually some conflicting reports about what the talks between WWE and NJPW are about, with PWInsider reporting that the discussions were mainly about the potential of Daniel Bryan working with both companies.

We’ll continue to provide further details and updates as they become available, so make sure you stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com.
