AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone is making her return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) after more than a year away.
Mone last competed in an NJPW ring on July 21 2023 losing to Willow Nightingale at NJPW Strong Resurgence 2023.
Nightingale would go on to become the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, losing the title to Giulia at the July 5 Independence Day show in Tokyo, Japan.
March 2024 would see Stephanie Vaquer win the belt at the Stardom Cinderella Tournament show with Mone taking the title at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in June of that year.
As confirmed by the NJPW Twitter account, Mercedes Mone is now making her return to the New Japan ring on August 30, 2024.
Mone’s return will be at NJPW Capital Collision in Washington DC’s Entertainment & Sports Arena.
Having left WWE in 2022, the former Sasha Banks made her New Japan debut at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January 2023.
Along with being the current Strong Women’s Champion, she was also an IWGP Women’s Champion.
Mone will defend her AEW TBS Championship against Britt Baker at All In London on August 25.
