With three weeks to go until the event takes place, AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio has announced a major new addition to the WWE Survivor Series 2026 card.
While WWE’s focus has understandably been on building towards Crown Jewel this Saturday (November 7), the 40th annual Survivor Series PLE is also right around the corner on November 28.
Fans are anticipating men’s and women’s WarGames matches to once again take center stage at the show, with The Bloodline vs. The 946 seeming likely to take the main event spot in Houston.
However, as confirmed by Rey Mysterio during his appearance on What’s Your Story? with Steph McMahon, we will also be seeing the return of the traditional five vs. five elimination tag team match at this year’s Survivor Series.
Mysterio announced:
“I had a couple words with Adam Pearce and with Nick Aldis and we are going to put together something very special.
“A classic five vs five Survivor Series match at this Survivor Series where it will be Team USA vs. Team Mexico.”
Stephanie McMahon then asked the Hall of Famer whether he will be competing in the match, to which he replied:
“Well, I won’t speak out right now as it is because we’re still putting the pieces together.”

It has been five years since WWE last gave fans a traditional elimination tag team match at Survivor Series, with WarGames serving as its replacement from 2022 onwards.
It’s not yet known who will be representing Team USA and Team Mexico, but we will provide updates as/when the participants in the match are revealed.
A welcome return for Survivor Series’ 40th instalment
With Survivor Series celebrating its 40th instalment in 2026, it’s only fitting to see its oldest tradition brought back on November 28.
Triple H’s shake-up of Survivor Series back in 2022 was very much welcome at the time, as Vince McMahon had thoroughly driven the Raw vs. SmackDown theme into the ground throughout the latter 2010s and early 2020s, as well as the five vs. five elimination tag team match.
Fast forward to 2026 however, and WarGames all of a sudden feels like the idea that is played out, so much so, that fans have called for the five vs. five tag matches to be brought back.
By having both WarGames and a five vs. five tag team match on this year’s show WWE should theoretically be appealing to everyone, but there is a chance this could also feel like overkill by the time the show is over.
Survivor Series is typically a four match card, but WWE may want to consider upping that to five so they can fit in some title matches and typical one vs. one bouts around all the tag team chaos.
