The AEW star ultimately came up short, with Umino pinning him to become the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion.

In backstage comments made after the match, Andrade El Idolo stated that he will be back for more NJPW titles soon.

Addressing his loss, he said:

“I lost my title, but it’s fine. You know why? Two (idiots) versus one real latino, Andrade El Idolo. Two guys from New Japan, versus me.

“But it’s okay. See you soon, guys. It’s just one match. I’ll be back in New Japan for more titles.”

Despite last being seen alongside The Dogs on AEW TV, Kidd stated after the event that he is now part of the Death Riders faction.

With Kidd also announced for the G1 Climax tournament starting in July, AEW’s involvement with NJPW will definitely continue well beyond Forbidden Door, which will see wrestlers from both companies face off on June 28.

Konosuke Takeshita – who holds contracts with AEW, NJPW and DDT-Pro – has also been announced for the upcoming tournament, indicating that he and Kidd will be off AEW TV from July 11 to August 16.
