A notable NJPW star has called out a current champion following the champion being announced for a match at AEW Forbidden Door 2025.
A huge Lights Out Steel Cage match was confirmed for the August 24 event, with Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, the Young Bucks and IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Gabe Kidd set to battle Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Darby Allin, Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi.
This match will be important for a variety of reasons, including it being Tanahashi’s final match ever in the UK, and Gabe Kidd’s return from injury.
Kidd was forced to withdraw from the G1 Climax tournament due to injury after just one match, with the champion having not wrestled since losing to Konosuke Takeshita in tournament action on July 19.
Shingo Takagi has now called Kidd out following the AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door announcement.
Calling for Kidd to show up in NJPW this weekend, Takagi noted the following during his backstage comments after the August 14 G1 Climax event:
“Gabe Kidd, you went back to your home country due to an injury, right? But what’s this? They just announced a cage match for the joint event with AEW today.
“Don’t mess around! You’re the champion of New Japan Pro-Wrestling! If your injury’s healed, then show up at Korakuen, Ariake, come on!”
(Translated from Japanese)
Both the August 16 semi final event and the August 17 G1 Climax final event will emanate from the Ariake Arena.
Shingo Takagi hasn’t been announced for AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door at the time of writing.
A star from another promotion has officially been announced for an AEW title match at Forbidden Door, which you can read more about right here.
