AEW's Swerve Strickland and the New Level

With them seemingly set to be part of a Texas Deathmatch at AEW Full Gear, the New Level will have officially arrived in the company.

At AEW All In: London, Kofi and Austin Creed made their debuts for AEW, being revealed as Swerve Strickland’s partners in the Casino Battle Royal for the Trios Championship.

The trio would drop the titles back to Hangman and Brodido at WrestleDream, with the blow off match seemingly set for AEW Full Gear next month after Swerve pitched a Texas Deathmatch.

With Kofi and Creed set to take part in Texas Death, the match will be the night the New Level truly arrive in AEW.

The 50/50 legacy of ‘ex-WWE’ stars in AEW

Over the years, many former WWE stars have made the jump over to AEW after departing the company, with the New Level not even being the latest example, as Ilja Dragunov made his debut at WrestleDream, with rumours of Kairi Sane and Sheamus potentially following.

However, for every Swerve or Toni Storm, there have been other former WWE star’s whose careers in AEW have not turned out as expected, whether that be due to reasons outside of their control, or the belief that many within the company have of them feeling like they are ‘too big’ for AEW.

The history of former WWE stars has led to some hesitation from Tony Khan and the fans about ex-WWE stars coming in to be part of the AEW roster over simply using the company to return to WWE, but with the New Level, that doesn’t seem to be an issue.

The New Level are already team players

The New Level left WWE back in April after rejecting a restructured contract offer from the company, with them opting to leave and join AEW instead of being fired by WWE.

Furthermore, the New Level have already integrated perfectly into the roster, with Austin Creed taking a losing fall at WrestleDream, as well as Kofi coming up short in his ROH World Championship match with Bandido at Grand Slam France.

Texas Deathmatches in AEW have a reputation of being the most violent stipulation in the company, and Kofi and Creed taking part in one will prove that they are here to contribute to AEW.
