An update has emerged on the partnership between WWE and TNA Wrestling ahead of the recently announced Bound for Glory.
A clause had previously been noted as preventing shows from announcing a show or selling tickets “until after the WWE show has taken place.”
Reporting on contract clauses previously, it was noted that a clause also existed that prevented promotions from running “a certain number of weeks before or after the WWE show”, with AEW being specified by Dave Meltzer.
It now appears that the clause has been waived specifically for TNA Wrestling, with that company enjoying a business partnership with WWE.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer looked at TNA Bound for Glory, which takes place on October 12 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Meltzer noted that WWE is running a show on August 24 in that venue, with Bound For Glory having been officially announced ahead of that date.
With Bound for Glory being “the company’s traditional biggest event of the year”, Meltzer noted that WWE have seemingly waived the deal that prevents promotion, announcements and ticket sales.
Meltzer would also state that the restrictive clause was the reason that AEW was unable to announce its Forbidden Door show taking place at the O2 Arena in London, England until after WWE had run its shows in the same building.
AEW Forbidden Door was announced on April 15, with the O2 Arena having played host to WWE SmackDown on March 28 and Raw on March 31.
With WWE and TNA Wrestling in a multi-year business partnership, Meltzer noted how Bound for Glory was brought up on Raw, stating that the partnership between WWE and TNA is “a lot deeper than it even looks on television.”
Elsewhere in the WON, Meltzer discussed the positive impact of WWE on AAA’s business in Los Angeles for the Worlds Collide event on June 7, making another interesting comment regarding the deepening relationship between WWE and TNA.
Meltzer wrote:
AAA under WWE drew better in Los Angeles, but it is essentially about to be owned by WWE. And some would say the same for TNA, which many have said close to the situation is going to be owned, if not already controlled in the big picture, by WWE. And that has never been denied by the company the idea of that happening.
Both the TNA World and Knockout’s Championships are currently held by WWE stars, with Trick Williams reigning over the men’s division of TNA and Jacy Jayne holding the top female prize.
