A WWE star has opened up on their emotional first championship victory in the company during their days in NXT.

After signing with the company a year prior, Bronson Reed captured his first championship of his WWE career, defeating Johnny Gargano in a Steel Cage match to win the NXT North American Championship.

With Reed still awaiting his first piece of championship gold on the main roster, he spoke to No-Contest Wrestling, where he opened up on the emotional experience of winning his first title in WWE.

He said:

“It was a big deal for me, it almost felt like a culmination of all my work on the independents to get to that point.

“I was wrestling for 12 years before I got signed with WWE, and it was always a goal of mine to not only get signed with WWE, but also become a champion, and that was the night that it happened.

“I remember this was when Triple H was still in charge of NXT, Black and Gold era, it was a lot of what you did was based on what you could do in the ring, it was all around the matches, and I think me and Johnny had a hell of a match.

“My wife was there to see it happen, and I just remember I think the ending shot is there’s pyro going off behind me and I’m crouched down looking at this championship crying.

“I just couldn’t help it, it was just overwhelming sense of emotion.

“I’m crying with this championship and I can hear referees and stuff saying ‘stand up and hold the title’, they’re yelling at me to try and get this last shot on camera, and I’m like too invested in the moment to even realise what they’re saying.”
