Jacy Jayne has addressed the result of Kendal Grey vs. Lola Vice and its implications for her upcoming NXT Women’s Championship match.
The March 31 episode of NXT saw Kendal Grey and Lola Vice compete to determine the number one contender for the Women’s Championship.
With Jacy Jayne facing the winner of the match at NXT Stand & Deliver, the sight of Grey tapping while Vice was pinned has led to Jayne dismissing the upcoming title defense.
In a post on Twitter, Jayne declared there would be no championship match at NXT Stand & Deliver on April 4, stating:
“Kendal tapped & Lola got pinned.. Therefore, no winner, no #1 contender, no title match.
“I am the FOREVER champion🥰”
At the time of writing, neither potential opponent has responded to Jayne’s post, although Vice did note:
“She tapped.”
Despite the outcome, Bully Ray shared his thoughts, declaring it to be one of the best women’s matches he has seen this year.
WWE officially lists the result as a “simultaneous pin and submission” rather than a no-contest on the NXT results page.
The NXT Women’s Championship Turns 13 Years Old
With NXT Stand & Deliver taking place on April 4, the following day marks the thirteenth anniversary of the brand’s Women’s Championship.
Introducing on April 5, 2013, the NXT Women’s Championship was first held by Paige, with Jayne being the latest star to hold the title, now in her second reign.
With twenty-five reigns in the title’s history, it was defended at WrestleMania 36, marking a first for the developmental brand, with Charlotte Flair defeating Rhea Ripley to become the new NXT Women’s Champion on night two of the 2020 event.
Unified with the NXT UK Women’s Championship at Worlds Collide in 2022, the title has seen some lengthy reigns in its thirteen-year history. Asuka holds the record with a 522-day reign, leaving Jayne with a long way to go to catch up to the WWE Raw star, having her own second reign currently sitting at over 130 days and a first ending at 150.
While Grey has been a former WWE Evolve Women’s Champion, Vice is yet to hold an NXT title in the four years she has been under contract.
With the fans behind both competitors on this week’s episode of WWE NXT, perhaps this Saturday will be the moment that creative pulls the trigger on a change of direction for one of their top championships, setting a new direction going forward for the Tuesday night show.
