A WWE star has revealed scrapped plans for him and Bron Breakker to debut as a tag team together when they arrived in NXT.
When NXT rebranded as NXT 2.0 in 2021, Bron Breakker debuted and was immediately presented as the next top singles star of the brand, soon going on to win the NXT Title.
However, prior to the reboot, he was originally planned to debut in a tag team with fellow WWE NXT standout Tony D’Angelo.
Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, D’Angelo explained:
“When we first got in, me and Bron were in a tag together. So we were doing that for a minute. Not on TV, but they were priming us, ‘This is what you’re gonna do,’ kinda like the new age Steiner Brothers type of deal.
“I was (wearing a singlet), but I was wearing a singlet before that anyway so that wasn’t foreign.
“I just remember one day, Road Dogg came up and he was like, ‘Hey man, we’re not doing this,’ and this is right when 2.0 first kicked off, they kinda just, ‘Clean slate, everybody, we kinda have a lane for you,’ and I had to figure out quick what I was gonna do.
“So in one of the in-house matches I just turned it on and they were like, ‘Whoa, where did that come from?’ And then they were like, ‘Yep, we’re running with this, this is it.'”

D’Angelo and Breakker both went on tol win the NXT Tag Team Championship with different partners – Breakker with Baron Corbin, and D’Angelo with Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo.
Breakker and Corbin actually defeated D’Angelo and Lorenzo to win the title in February 2024.
Tony D’Angelo’s Dream Bar Fight Team
In the same interview, Tony D’Angelo was asked to name his dream WWE bar fight team in the event that he needed backup against 50 guys in a bar.
He replied:
“I don’t even have to think about it. It’ll be me, Bron Breakker, the Creeds, Trick Williams. I would take that squad over anybody. It’s not even close.
“You’ve got three Division 1 All-Americans, really five, all in D1 athletics. Bron was a State Champion in Georgia. You’ve got the Creeds, and then you’ve got me.
“And then Trick Willy – he’s been doing that Capoeira, so he’s got the Trick Kick down. He’s got those long legs, he’s gonna keep everybody at a distance. D1 athlete, he was part of the Eagles organization for a bit. He’s a stud.”

Tony D’Angelo Could Be The Next NXT Champion
Tony D’Angelo has won all the gold available to him in NXT with one exception – the NXT Championship itself.
He has the chance to finally win the title in just over a week at WWE NXT Stand & Deliver, where he, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page and defending champion Joe Hendry will compete in a four-way match.
D’Angelo recently returned to NXT after several months away with two goals, the first of which was to take out DarkState, which he did successfully by defeating Dion Lennox at Vengeance Day.
Now, it would be poetic for him to finally achieve the top prize on the brand and make good on his second goal.
