Over two months after his appearance at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble, Royce Keys will officially make his SmackDown debut tomorrow night (April 10).
WWE posted a video to social media announcing Keys’ arrival on SmackDown, with the former Powerhouse Hobbs giving fans a look into his upbringing in East Palo Alto, California.
Keys said:
“I’m Royce Keys. This (East Palo Alto) is my city. A place where choice is a luxury. I was born in it. Gang violence, drugs, everything you can think of, ran through East Palo Alto.
“For me, fortunately I had two grandparents that weren’t having that. My grandma made sure, the stuff outside, you weren’t bringing in the house.
“The main thing was love in that house. The Royal Rumbles we had here, we had to throw each other over this fence. We didn’t have a lot, but we had each other. My grandma allowed us to dream big. She showed us a world beyond where we were from.
“Wrestling brought me so much happiness. I knew I wanted to do this. Not a lot of people can make it out of here. I just wanna do my part.
“This is all I ever wanted to do, this is all I know, this is what brings me peace, this is what motivates me. This is it. I refuse to be defined by where I’m from – but instead, by where I’m going.”

While it has taken WWE over two months to introduce Keys on SmackDown, the former AEW star has actually been busy competing on a regular basis inside the ring.
According to Cagematch.net, Keys has competed in, and won nine dark matches across Raw and SmackDown tapings since February 13.
Keys has picked up victories over both Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley of the Motor City Machine Guns, Rey Fenix, Berto, Rayo Americano and, most recently, Brutus Creed.
At the time of writing it has not yet been confirmed who Keys will compete against in his televised SmackDown debut.
Will Royce Keys Factor Into WrestleMania 42?
The timing of Royce Keys’ WWE debut is somewhat surprising given that WrestleMania 42 is now just over one week away.
The longer the wait went on, it seemed likelier that WWE would reintroduce Keys after “The Show of Shows,” with the Raw and SmackDown after WrestleMania typically a time for big debuts and returns.
While WWE booking Keys to debut now is a curious decision, it seems like it will probably be too late for the former AEW TNT Champion to factor into WrestleMania plans in any meaningful way.
What is perhaps more likely is Keys participating in this year’s Andre The Giant Battle Royal, which typically happens on the SmackDown before WrestleMania.
While the line-up for that match is not yet known, Keys seems like one of the front-runners as the company will want to give him a big win to kickstart his WWE career.
