An NXT star has commented on whether it’s important to win championship gold on the brand before moving to the WWE main roster.

Among the NXT names seemingly in the mix for a call-up to WWE Raw or SmackDown right now is Blake Monroe, who has held the NXT Women’s North American Championship, but not the NXT Women’s Championship.

Her North American Title reign was cut short when Thea Hail won the title unplanned, and Monroe is now looking to get it back from Tatum Paxley at WWE Stand & Deliver next weekend.

In an interview with ReviewSTL, Monroe was asked whether it’s important to her to have an NXT Women’s Title reign before moving to the main roster.

She replied:

“Timing is everything. I feel like the world and the universe knows what you need and when you need it.

“Selfishly, I would really love to become two-time Women’s North American Champion, because I feel like my reign got cut short. I feel like I was very much screwed over by that referee so there was a lot more I wanted to do in my reign as the Women’s North American Champion, so I do wanna re-tell and complete that story.

“And I would like to become the World Champ. I feel that when I debuted, I pinned Jacy, so there’s a story there. I never got my championship match, I kind of went on to do other things. I feel like it’s just completing NXT and being like, ‘I held every title, and I held the World Title, the top title on that brand.’

“I’ll always say I’m the face of NXT, title or not, but it would be nice to have that accessory I feel.”

The Importance Of Telling A Story In WWE & Pro-Wrestling

Elsewhere in the interview, Blake Monroe was asked about the importance of telling a story in wrestling as opposed to just an athletic performance.

She said:

“If you look at my career and my career highlights, I think all of them have come from a story.

“I think I’m a fantastic wrestler in the ring. I don’t do 25 moonsaults or death defying stunts, but when I go out there, I give 110% in what I do, and I feel like my in-ring marries my character perfectly.

“I just think the most important part of wrestling is telling a story. If you think about the people on top right now and the WrestleMania main events we’ve had recently in the past 10 years. Cody and Roman, that was a two-year long epic, it was incredible.

“Look at John Cena. When I grew up too, the stories I would watch like when Jeff Hardy finally won the World Title. Those are the moments you remember. It’s the stories. Nobody cares if you can do some gymnastics – at least I don’t.”
