A current champion has opened up about his goals in WWE and how he controlled his ‘thinking too far ahead’ mentality.
The current NXT Champion, Joe Hendry’s motto has become a meme in its own right, with the former TNA star reflecting on whether he believes.
With an in-ring career going back to 2013, Hendry’s journey would see him compete primarily in Scotland, before he spread his wings to the rest of the United Kingdom and then internationally.
A former TNA star, Hendry made an early appearance in WWE as Lana’s legal representative in 2014, returning a decade later on NXT.
Hendry has now reiterated his belief that WWE was always his destination, with a championship in his sights, during an interview with Gaming Bible, saying:
“I always wanted to come to WWE, and my goal is to become a WWE World Champion. But there was a point that I was so fixated on that goal, I was almost thinking too far ahead.
“But I remember getting to a point when I was in Newcastle, and I was wrestling in front of 100 people, and I did one of my comedy songs. It was a great evening, and I thought if it doesn’t get any better than this, I’ll still enjoy it and be 100% committed.
“I always trusted that if I put in the work, good things would happen, and I had trust in God’s plan. Then I was able to let go of the pressure of my dream and focus on the audience and give them the best show.”
Joe Hendry Believes In Joe Hendry
From his earliest days, Hendry was convinced that he would become WWE Champion, sharing that mentality with his trainers and fellow trainees at SMASH Wrestling
Along with being Lana’s lawyer, complete with accent, Hendry would also appear a Rosebud, the entourage of Adam Rose, on a number of occasions.
Throughout his career, he has been able to manifest moments, including believing he would face Kurt Angle, and going on to have that match in October 2016.
Despite still being signed to TNA Wrestling at the time, Hendry would be handpicked as Randy Orton’s opponent, replacing Kevin Owens, at WrestleMania 41.
He has also shared the lessons he has learned from John Cena, revealing that the now-retired WWE star is one of many who focus on the numbers of the wrestling business.
The current NXT Champion, Hendry is a former TNA World Champion and has held multiple championships internationally and was added to the WWE 2K26 video game roster.
