A championship match announced for tonight’s NXT New Year’s Evil episode of WWE NXT has officially been cancelled.
On the December 16 episode of WWE NXT, Thea Hail captured the NXT Women’s North American Championship from Blake Monroe in the opening match of the show.
The victory reportedly happened accidentally, with Thea not planned to win the title from Blake, which led to NXT creative having to quickly scrap plans they had for the title.
A rematch between Thea Hail and Blake Monroe for the Women’s North American Championship was made for tonight’s NXT New Year’s Evil show, but it didn’t end up taking place.
As Thea made her entrance for the match to kick off the show, she was jumped from behind by Blake, who assaulted her with a Steel Chair and tossed her into the barricade, postponing the match.
Later in the night, NXT General Manager Ava caught up to Blake backstage, where she banned her from the arena for the rest of the show, confirming that the title match won’t be taking place tonight.
In a segment later in the night, Thea Hail noted that she will be issuing an open challenge for the title later in the show.
