With CMLL, also based in Mexico, in a business partnership with AEW, the approach AAA will take to stars in that promotion has been revealed.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that there were no plans to get into a “bidding war”, stating:

Right now, the plan is not to go after CMLL talent and get into a bidding war.

They want to keep costs down, and focus on talented independent guys.

The idea right now is they could sign CMLL guys, or former CMLL guys, but right now the idea is not to get into a war with CMLL, although obviously in time that is inevitable.

Meltzer would also reveal that WWE is positioning AAA as the Mexican feeder promotion for NXT.

Further to this, the report notes that changes to the production of AAA under WWE control were also revealed by Meltzer.

There are also planned changes to the presentation of AAA to bring it more in line with WWE.

Recently, AAA’s Roberto Figueroa reflected on the impact of the changes under WWE ownership, commenting on the “gringo essence” of AAA compared to the more traditional CMLL product.

He would also reveal that Pete Dunne has been working as a producer in AAA with Jeremy Borash as Director of WWE in Latin America.
