WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has opened up about her on-screen history and behind-the-scenes friendship with her former rival Lita.
Trish Stratus vs Lita is considered by many to be one of the best women’s wrestling rivalries of all time, with the duo facing off numerous times on WWE TV between 2000 and 2006.
With the duo known to be good friends in real life, Stratus opened up about her relationship with Lita during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, commenting on their transition from rivals to teammates.
When asked if she felt she had instant chemistry with Lita, Trish Stratus said:
“I think everyone in the business has that person. I like to say like a Rock and (Steve) Austin, (Kevin Owens) and Sami Zayn, that kind of thing where you don’t even have to barely communicate, you just go out there and do your thing.
“You kind of can read each other’s bodies, and you consider yourself lucky when you have that with an opponent. I just think right away, we were both the new girls at the same time in 2000. We talked on the phone, and she’s like, ‘I’ve been training.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, me too.’
“She’s like, ‘I hadn’t had like any matches professionally.’ She had had some spectacle matches. She was saying she was nervous because I was the fitness model, and she’s like ‘How am I going to get on TV with this chick doing her thing?’ I was like ‘How am I going to get on TV with her being that great in the ring?’
“We both had our things, and the cool thing about me and Lita is the yin and the yang of us. We’re so opposite, but yet we’re the best of friends. To this day, you know, she’s Max’s godmother, so we kept her in the family.
“When I inducted her in 2014, that’s when we got to hang out more. We formed Team Bestie, that was the official inception of Team Bestie, and we put the Team Bestie tour together, and we got to go out on the road and see all you guys together.
“It was cool because there were always the Lita fans and the Trish fans. They were opposites, ‘Nah, she’s overrated.’ But finally, people are like, ‘Okay, if they like each other, then we like it. Okay, we’re all one big family now.’ Then the novelty of getting a shot with Team Bestie is pretty cool too.”
Trish Stratus and Lita have teamed together several times since 2018, most recently alongside Becky Lynch against Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY at WrestleMania 39 in 2023.
With Stratus last wrestling in July 2025, the Hall of Famer recently indicated that she will only return to the ring if the timing and opponent make sense, and if she can commit herself to it 100%.
