WWE legend The Rock

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed the emotional inspiration behind a new project that sees the WWE star take to the studio.

Lending his vocals to the “Moana: Voices Across The Ocean” album, Johnson has opened up about one track in particular and the significance to him and his family.

The album features tracks inspired by the Disney movie Moana, with Johnson lending vocals to the track “Your Dad”, a topic he would address in a recent appearance on Sirius XM, saying:

“I had a complicated relationship with my and what you find is you work hard to… I don’t wanna make my dad’s decisions, those mistakes; I wanna learn from those mistakes.

“But, then you also realise that, as a dude, as a man, as you get older and you have kids of your own, it’s like, man, there’s just some things in my dad’s DNA that you can’t escape.

“And, you know what? Maybe that’s a good thing because he did teach me these things about hard work, and he raised me with a hard hand, and a tough hand, and all these things.”

Sharing footage from that conversation on Instagram, The Rock would provide a further insight into the meaning of the song, sharing:

“I wrote and sang a song with @wtongi that’s featured on our “Voices Across The Ocean” album (inspired by Moana), and the song is called “Your Dad”. A song that was inspired by my three daughters, Simone, Jazzy and Tia 🤍🤍🤍

“I don’t have a son, but I did have a dad once and that was a very complex relationship that never reconciled before he died. That father-son relationship is a crucial one that can go either way.

“Even though this song is for my daughters, I can’t help but think of my dad a little every time I sing it. He never said these words to me, but maybe he felt these words at some point when I was a little kid.”

The Rock has been absent from WWE since Elimination Chamber in March of last year, the PLE that saw John Cena turn heel for the first time in his career.

The musical talents of The Rock were showcased in the movie Moana, with the star demonstrating his skills, despite his daughter Tia not believing that her own father is Maui. “You’re Welcome” would become an RIAA 6x Platinum certified track after its 2016 release.

The Rock would also provide his voice to “It Doesn’t Matter” by Wyclef Jean from the album The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book, following this up a year later with a collaboration with Tech N9ne titled “Face Off” from the 2021 album Asin9ne.

With Johnson’s daughter Simone recently celebrating her birthday, the star led the attendees at the Disney Legends celebration to singing “happy birthday” for the clearly emotional former NXT General Manager, Ava.

Johnson continues to be a bankable star in Hollywood, despite missing out on an Oscar for his portrayal Mark Kerr in Smashing Machine. His upcoming slate sees a return as Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone in Jumanji: Open World, and the role of Chicken Man in Lizard Music, reuniting him with Benny Safdie.
