A WWE tag team has reunited after almost two years apart, and will be teaming up in a match next week.
In 2021, Carmelo Hayes debuted in NXT a few months before the rebrand to NXT 2.0.
When NXT 2.0 debuted, so did Trick Williams, who was brought in as Hayes’ hype man, with that dynamic leading to success for Hayes as he became a two-time NXT North American Champion and the NXT Champion.
However, in late 2023, Hayes turned on Williams which led to a feud between them that culminated with a main event match at WrestleMania 40 weekend’s NXT Stand & Deliver event.
Soon after that, Hayes was called up to the main roster and Williams became one of the top stars – if not the top star – in NXT.
NXT, which has made the WWE Performance Center its home over the past few years, next week returns to its original home of Full Sail University for the NXT Homecoming event.
As such, the show will feature some familiar faces from NXT’s history, including former NXT Tag Team Champions and NXT Champions individually, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, collectively known as DIY.
Last week, Gargano and Ciampa confronted Trick Williams over his claim that he’s the greatest star in NXT history, with Williams saying that he was going to find a partner of his own to set up a match.
Tonight, Williams introduced that partner, and it is his former ally turned rival Carmelo Hayes.
Williams and Hayes had some issues to hash out, but eventually got on the same page, and will face DIY at NXT Homecoming next week.
