WWE reportedly has “strong interest” in signing a 60-year-old former multi-time WCW champion to a legends contract.
Aside from returning to induct Rey Mysterio into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame, Konnan has not had much association with the company.
This year has seen that change however, as following WWE’s acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA, Konnan was seen at the commentary desk alongside Corey Graves for the WWE x AAA crossover show: Worlds Collide on June 7, as well as working alongside WWE’s Jeremy Borash in the AAA creative team.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, WWE is now keen on signing the Konnan to a legends contract – a deal that would allow the former WCW United States Champion to continue his backstage work in AAA:
“WWE is said to have strong interest in signing Konnan to a legends deal, separate from his ongoing involvement with AAA.
“Konnan has been distant from the WWE for a very long time. He’s been involved with AAA. He has his own podcast. He’s been a little outspoken, but nothing crazy. Just don’t think people ever saw this coming. Now that they’re with AAA, it’s a little easier.”
WWE reportedly sees marketing opportunities in Konnan, should they sign him to a legends deal:
“We’re told there is genuine interest from the marketing side, particularly around producing Konnan merchandise, including shirts, action figures and other collectibles.”
We will provide further updates on WWE’s interest in signing Konnan to a legends deal as more information becomes available.
