A current WWE star has been announced for an upcoming match against a New Japen Pro Wrestling star in Japan.
At this weekend’s Pro Wrestling NOAH Destination 2024 event, which saw WWE’s AJ Styles face off with Naomichi Marufuji, the brackets for the upcoming N1 Victory Tournament were announced.
The brackets contained WWE NXT stars Josh Briggs and Tavion Heights, with Briggs a part of the A Block, while Heights will compete in the B Block.
Today, the opening matches of the tournament were announced for the upcoming N1 Victory Day 1 event at Yokohama Budokan, with Heights set to kick off the B Block in a match with Titus Alexander.
Briggs however is set to kick off the A Block in a match against Ryohei Oiwa, which is a rather notable match.
Oiwa is currently working in Pro Wrestling NOAH on excursion from New Japan Pro Wrestling, meaning his match with Briggs will see a WWE contracted talent face off with an NJPW contracted talent.
NJPW are currently in a working relationship with AEW, recently hosting the annual Forbidden Door pay-per-view event.
