A WWE star has addressed the formation of a brand new tag team on last night’s episode of SmackDown.
While Rey Fenix is most known for being one half of the Lucha Bros alongside his brother Penta, he has teamed with many different WWE stars since debuting in the company in April, such as Andrade, LA Knight and Je’Von Evans.
On the October 24 episode of SmackDown however, a new team was formed as Fenix took on the MFTs’ Tama Tonga and JC Mateo alongside the recently returning Shinsuke Nakamura.
Both Nakamura and Fenix had fallen victim to the MFTs since their return to SmackDown, but unfortunately for them there was no revenge exacted on last night’s show, with Tama Tonga pinning Fenix after some interference from Talla Tonga.
Nonetheless, Nakamura seemed to enjoy his union with Fenix, taking to Twitter after SmackDown to share an image of he and the former AEW star, along with the message:
The soul of a dragon, the heart of a phoenix
It’s not yet clear whether the pairing of Nakamura and Fenix will become a presence in the SmackDown tag team division or just a one-off.
The WWE Tag Team Championships have been held by The Wyatt Sicks’ Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis since July 11, who seem set for a future meeting with MFT after several recent run-ins between the two groups on SmackDown.
