WWE star Je’Von Evans has reflected on having the “honor” to wrestle Randy Orton during Evans’ time in NXT.
In October 2024, shortly after WWE NXT moved to the CW Network, Randy Orton wrestled a very rare NXT match, facing Je’Von Evans in Orton’s hometown of St Louis, Missouri.
In a new interview with Bootleg Kev, Evans reflected on that match against Orton, saying:
“It was wild. It was a very big test for me. I think that was my first major test.
“At the time, I think I was in NXT maybe almost a year – either close to a year or we’d just hit a year – and they gave me the opportunity to go against Randy Orton in his hometown, which is insane.
“You know OG ain’t pulling up to NXT just to wrestle anybody in his hometown, or to wrestle in general. It was an honor. I’m so blessed that I had the opportunity and so grateful that I got to learn under Randy.
“Ever since then, there’s been a connection between me and him.
“I haven’t talked to him since SmackDown (when he attacked Cody Rhodes), he’s kind of been by himself, he’s been a little distant, he’s been tweaking out.
“He’s just locked in for Mania. It’s just a phase, that’s it (laughs).”

Praise For Danhausen
“I am (a fanhausen). I think that he is very, very entertaining. He’s tough, bro. People don’t know but he can really get down.
“He’s just got there, too. Instantly. Hopefully he doesn’t curse my ass. Miz is cooked, Grayson Waller, he’s cooked.”

Je’Von Evans Continues To Rise In WWE
Despite not winning a championship during his time in NXT, it was clearly that he was seen as one of the top stars on the brand and a potential future WWE main roster star as well.
Since his move to the main roster, that hasn’t changed, as he continues to gain popularity and has the backing of the booking with wins on TV and positions in matches like the Elimination Chamber.
Evans also has a spot on the WrestleMania card, as he joins Penta, Dragon Lee, Rusev and JD McDonagh in the Intercontinental Championship ladder match.
Out of that field, Evans has to be considered one of the favorites – if not the favorite – to leave Mania as IC Champion.
