WWE Star Blake Monroe Addresses Botched Thea Hail Title Change

WWE NXT star Blake Monroe has commented on the botched finish and title change in her recent Women’s North American Championship match against Thea Hail.

On December 16, Monroe put the NXT Women’s North American Title on the line in a match against Thea Hail on NXT TV, with Hail picking up the win.

It emerged after the match that the title change was not planned and was the result of a botched springboard senton from Hail onto Monroe, with the referee counting to three on the pinfall when it wasn’t supposed to be the finish, and Monroe was planned to have retained her title.

There was then a scramble backstage as there was another show to be pre-taped later that night due to it being Christmas the following week, and all the plans going forward for the championship had to be changed – with some people who had already gone home having to go back to tape new content that they weren’t originally planned for.

On the latest edition of Notsam Wrestling, Blake Monroe was asked by WWE analyst Sam Roberts about the situation, and replied:

“I mean look, the negative is Thea Hail will always be attached to me now. I have to wrestle her next week. You’re lucky I’ve shown up today. I was going to go to therapy but I decided to be a company woman and show up.

“But no – I think the theme of my career is people will talk about me, and who are you if you’re not talked about, to be honest.

“It was definitely shocking, and I feel like the referee was clearly in a rush to get home, he counted that quick.

“But no, it was definitely very exciting, and I’m gonna get my revenge next week, in under three minutes.”

Hail’s unplanned NXT Women’s Championship reign only lasted three weeks, as she lost the title to current champion Izzi Dame on January 6.

Monroe’s prior reign lasted 52 days as she won the title from Sol Ruca at Halloween Havoc on October 25.

As Monroe noted, she and Hail are set for a match on this coming Tuesday’s WWE NXT.
