The challengers for a championship open challenge issued for the August 1 edition of SmackDown have potentially been revealed.
WWE stars Angel and Berto will defend their AAA Tag Team Championship “at home” on SmackDown, with a title match slated for the next episode.
With the team issuing an open challenge, there has been a lot of speculation about who will answer the call, and compete for the AAA title.
We may have received a big clue about who’s next in line to challenge for the gold, with the champions defeated in six-man tag-team action at the WWE SuperShow Mexico event in Mexico City.
During the July 26 non-televised event, Angel, Berto and Santos Escobar of Legado Del Fantasma were defeated by AAA stars Mr Iguana, Pagano & Psycho Clown.

Following this result, it has been heavily speculated that two stars out of this trio will be next in line for an AAA Tag Team Championship match, potentially on Friday, August 1.
Pagano & Psycho Clown notably lost to Legado Del Fantasma in a six-man tag-team match at the June 7 Worlds Collide show, teaming with El Hijo de Dr Wagner on that occasion.
With Pagano & Psycho Clown also part of the tag-team fourway bout which saw Angel & Berto win the AAA Tag Team Championship at Triplemanía Regia, it has been speculated that this duo will make their SmackDown debut for the championship open challenge.
This could be an opportunity for WWE to finally bring Mr Iguana to main roster TV however, with the star receiving a surge in popularity following his appearance at Worlds Collide.
The August 16 Triplemanía event will see three WWE stars challenge for the AAA Mega Championship, which you can read more about right here.
