Stephanie McMahon made an unannounced appearance on tonight’s WWE Raw, confronting Cody Rhodes to open the show.
Rhodes kicked off WWE Raw at Madison Square Garden but was quickly interrupted by the arrival of McMahon.
With Rhodes confused, McMahon pointed out that he shouldn’t be, because MSG is “the house my grandfather built.”
McMahon’s purpose for being there was to motivate Rhodes for his WrestleMania WWE Title defense against Randy Orton – speaking from experience from dealing with heel Orton in 2009, she said “this version of Cody Rhodes can’t beat this version of Randy Orton.”
She also said Cody Rhodes is not Dusty Rhodes, which Rhodes responded to by referencing Vince McMahon, saying:
“You wanna bring up fathers? I’m not mine, you’re right. Stephanie McMahon, with all due respect, you’re not yours either.”
This led to Stephanie slapping Rhodes, but ultimately, the segment ended with Rhodes thanking her, suggesting that her attempts to motivate him were successful.
John Cena’s WWE WrestleMania 42 Return Plans
With just under three weeks until WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, John Cena made the announcement that he would be making his first appearance in WWE since his retirement at “The Showcase of the Immortals” on April 18-19.
Taking up the role as guest host of the event rather than lacing up his boots, there are many possibilities for Cena’s return, including a potential face-off with the man who retired him: GUNTHER.
Alternatively we could see Cena interact with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton during their anticipated Undisputed WWE Championship Match, with the 17-time world champion’s history with both men making him a logical inclusion in their story.
However, given his busy schedule and in-ring retirement, backstage skits with Danhausen and announcing WrestleMania’s attendance is probably the likelier way WWE will use Cena in Las Vegas.
