Sol Ruca has revealed a misconception she had about WWE before signing with the company in 2022.
Appearing on What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon, the NXT star addressed coming from a sporting background to WWE and how she expected the company to have full control over how she would be packaged on TV.
Discussing her surprise at being able to give her own input to the creation of her WWE character, Ruca opened up about the struggle and gratification of her developmental journey:
“It’s so different from sports. In sports it’s like, ‘You have to wear this, you have to do this and this is your routine.’ When I got here I thought it was gonna be the same thing. I thought they going to be like, ‘This is your character, this is your name, this what you wear, this is what you do.’
“And then I got here and they were like, ‘So, what’s your character?’ And I was like, ‘You’re asking me that question? No one’s ever asked me to put input in my performance.’
“It’s really strange and it was really hard at first thing to figure out what works, what doesn’t work, what resonates with me or what’s gonna correlate on TV or are people gonna relate to this.
“As much as that was really hard it was really cool to be able to just be vulnerable with the fans and try stuff. If it fails it fails if not you know.”
