Several people in WWE reportedly “strongly dislike” a big change made to SmackDown since the beginning of 2025.
Beginning with the January 3, 2025 episode, WWE SmackDown changed from its traditional two hour runtime to three hours.
Shortly following the January 3 episode, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H confirmed that this change would be a temporary one, and SmackDown would return to its original two hour format at an unspecified date.
During WrestleVotes Radio on the Sportskeeda Backstage Pass Patreon the backstage reaction to SmackDown’s switch to three hours was revealed, with several people in the company said to “strongly dislike” the new format:
“We are told several within the company strongly dislike the three-hour SmackDown format, as those sources feel like the quality of the show has dipped in the last two months.
“Prior to the expansion, there was optimism and belief that some underutilized talent would be able to shine, considering the extra hour. However, that has not come to fruition as of yet.”
WrestleVotes would then provide an update on an earlier report from before SmackDown’s move to three hours, revealing exactly when WWE is planning to revert the show back to its original two hour runtime:
“SmackDown is still scheduled to return to two hours come this June.”
We will provide updates when WWE officially confirm the timeframe for SmackDown’s move back to two hours.
