Sami Zayn Makes First Comments Since Winning WWE United States Championship

Sami Zayn has made his first comments since winning the WWE United States Championship from Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown.

Zayn answered Hayes’ open challenge in Pittsburgh this past Friday and scored the win to become a two-time US Champion.

Later in the show, it was confirmed that Zayn will defend the championship against Trick Williams at WWE WrestleMania 42.

In his first post since winning the title, Zayn wrote:

Big thank you to my fans. These past few months especially have been tumultuous, and you’ve had my back when times were tough.

Now we are heading to Wrestlemania together, and I am walking in as a champion. Lots of love -SZ

Fans Want WrestleMania Justice For Carmelo Hayes

As noted, WWE has confirmed that Sami Zayn is set to defend the United States Championship against Trick Williams at WrestleMania.

However, a number of fans have heavily pushed for Hayes to be added to this match, deeming it to be an injustice that he’s been dropped from the title picture under a month away from the biggest show of the year.

The finish of Hayes vs Zayn came when Williams got up onto the ring apron and took aim at Zayn but accidentally struck Hayes instead, so Hayes does have a legitimate argument to be added to the Mania match.

Plus, there are several years of backstory between Hayes and Williams from their days in NXT going as far back as 2021 when Williams debuted as Hayes’ cornerman, before Hayes turned on him and they main evented WWE Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania weekend two years ago.

Carmelo Hayes definitely has the right to feel hard done by if he misses out on a WrestleMania spot this year after consistently putting on some of the best SmackDown matches for a couple of years at this point, and recently finding a connection with the fans that perhaps was previously lacking.

Former WWE star Baron Corbin has been vocal about wanting Hayes to be added to the Mania match – click here to find out more.
