A reason for the partnership between TNA Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling coming to an end has been revealed.
Back in 2021, AEW and TNA Wrestling had been in a partnership, which saw a number of AEW stars appear on TNA television, and vice versa.
During the partnership, Kenny Omega was in the midst of his ‘belt collector’ run, where he captured both the TNA and IMPACT World Championships, losing the titles to Christian Cage on the premiere episode of AEW Rampage.
The relationship between the two companies came to an end shortly after, and we may now have more of an idea of why that came to be.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Sean Ross Sapp spoke to former TNA president Scott D’Amore for an interview, where they discussed Omega’s reign as champion.
Scott said that, at the time, IMPACT was struggling to gain traction, and the partnership with AEW helped boost their business due to Omega’s involvement as the World Champion.
D’Amore noted that Omega’s presence raised pay-per-view buys, TV viewership, social media engagement and economically.
D’Amore also spoke about the pain Omega was in at the time, which made things difficult for him, but he was still impactful.
D’Amore noted that the company’s two pay-per-views with Omega on were the highest grossing in TNA history, with Scott noting that he believes Kenny got a bad rap from day one.
As for why the partnership ended, Scott noted that Kenny had wanted to work matches with both Eddie Edwards and Josh Alexander, but certain restraints prevented those matches from ultimately taking place.
The restraints preventing the matches was said to be one of the reasons why the relationship between companies ended.
