After a turbulent on-screen relationship in 2025, John Cena and R-Truth reunited on this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown (August 8).
For years R-Truth has referred to John Cena as his “childhood hero”, with the former WWE World Tag Team Champion often imitating his moves and mannerisms.
However, when Cena turned heel at WWE Elimination Chamber in March, that loyalty was tested and the pair began feuding throughout the late Spring and early Summer.
On the August 8 episode of SmackDown however, all that appeared to be water under the bridge as Truth and newly turned babyface Cena ran into each other backstage, with Cena jokingly convincing Truth that he was the one that had been acting as a heel and seeking to “ruin wrestling”.
Addressing the segment on Justin Barrasso’s Undisputed, Truth said:
“It was so organic, that’s why it came across that way. You could feel it.”
“The proof is in the pudding, for just over a minute promo to be one of the biggest takeaways from the show, come on, I love that.
“John is the G.O.A.T. in my eyes. Not only is he my childhood hero, I’ve learned a lot from being in the ring with him–and I’ve learned a lot from him in the back.”
While the segment showed R-Truth display more of a comedic character, after months of portraying a more serious version of himself, it’s not clear if the veteran is set to revert to the character he played before his brief departure from the company in early June.
