A current champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s contract is set to expire soon amid an upcoming big contract season.

In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Kevin Knight’s contract with the company is set to expire in the next few days, despite him being scheduled for the upcoming Wrestle Kingdom show on January 4.

Those within NJPW that spoke to Fightful claim that the company is interested in retaining Knight, and that negotiations will begin soon.

Fightful also noted that Knight’s name has been brought up within major American wrestling companies in recent months.

Knight has made a number of appearances for TNA this year, with his current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship partner Kushida also recently departing the company.
