A huge interpromotional match featuring former WWE World Champion John Cena has potentially been revealed, with a crossover star planning to issue a major challenge.
With John Cena recently announcing that his retirement tour will begin next year, rumors have been swirling about Cena’s opponents for his final year as a pro-wrestler.
While Cena has been the face of WWE for majority of his time with the company, TNA Wrestling star Joe Hendry recently referenced the 16-time world champion, fuelling speculation about a potential crossover bout.
Joe Hendry has now revealed that he plans to officially call Cena out following the TNA World Championship six-way elimination match at Slammiversary.
Noting that he’ll issue a challenge to John Cena if he wins the title on July 20, Hendry told Chris Jericho on Talk is Jericho:
“I have a world championship match at Slammiversary. I’m going to be in the main event. This is insane. I couldn’t get on a pay-per-view four months. Now, I’m in the main event for the world title at Slammiversary.
“I’ll tell you this now. If — when I win the title, I’m going to raise the title above my head, I’m going to take the microphone, and I’m going to say, ‘John Cena, you’ve done everything in this business. Almost, everything. If you want to cross the line…’ That’s what is going to happen.”
Joe Hendry has made several appearances for NXT as part of WWE and TNA Wrestling’s working relationship.
