In recent comments prior to this announcement, Cena said he was trying to figure out what his future role in WWE would look like.

Why John Cena Would Be A Good WWE Commentator

Making a suggestion during the latest edition of Grilling JR, legendary announcer Jim Ross suggested WWE could utilize John Cena in a role on the commentary team.

JR said:

“I’d like to hear John’s commentary. He’s smart, he’s got a way with words. I’m curious as to how he might do in that role.

“There’s no doubt in my mind he’s got the talent for it. But I don’t know if he would be content with that or not.

“But he would do a good job, no doubt about that in my view.”

Whether it be getting involved in a major match or just a backstage incident, there are plenty of ways WWE could kick off a storyline to bring Cena back at a later date, whether it be as a commentator, special guest referee or another role.

One option could be for him to circle back around to two of his last opponents – GUNTHER and Brock Lesnar – who may be headed for a match against each other at SummerSlam in August.
