An update has emerged on the situation surrounding Jeff Cobb, amid speculation about his future and a potential WWE debut.
Fightful originally reported that Jeff Cobb – who was referred to in the report as a free agent – is a star WWE has had their eye on recently, with one source indicating that Cobb had appeared on WWE’s internal roster, which Fightful couldn’t confirm.
With Cobb continuing on in the NJPW New Japan Cup tournament, more details have emerged on contract between Cobb and WWE behind the scenes.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been talks between WWE and Cobb, but no confirmation of a deal.
Noting that Cobb is booked for NJPW Windy City Riot on April 11, Meltzer wrote:
He’s been living for a while in Fukuoka, Japan, but at 42, it was also known that he sensed this was perhaps his last chance to make the kind of money WWE & AEW pay.
He did turn down AEW several years back because he was happy in New Japan, so happy that he ended up moving there.
The only thing we have heard from WWE at press time is that there have been talks, but no confirmation of a deal. Cobb is booked for the 4/11 New Japan show in Chicago.
Cobb notably defeated Tetsuya Naito in their New Japan Cup match on Friday (March 14), advancing from the round of 16 to the quarter finals.
We will provide further updates on Cobb’s future and potential move to WWE as more information becomes available.
