Former WWE Star Wants Rematch Against AEW’s Shelton Benjamin

A former WWE star has opened up about his match with AEW’s Shelton Benjamin and hopes they can run it back one day.

While he was never called up to the WWE main roster, former NXT star Bobby Steveson (Damon Kemp) did have a couple of matches in front of the main roster crowd on Main Event in 2023.

The first of those matches – which took place in January 2023 – saw him face Shelton Benjamin in something of a dream match for Steveson given their backgrounds in Minnesota.

In an interview with Wrestling With Heart, Steveson opened up about the experience and hopes they can have a rematch one day. He said:

“It was at the BOK Center in Oklahoma, so there were 13-14,000 people there. And that was my first time pro-wrestling in front of that many people.

“So I was like, ‘Ah crap,’ I was nervous as heck. But it was also a dream match too, because we kinda have similar styles, kinda.

“It was great. It was so cool working with him. The style was so different. The style up there is a lot slower versus NXT which is everyone just bouncing around the ring like pinballs.

“It was cool to slow it down and have him talk to me, and just be in the ring.

“I was checking off a lot of bucket list (items). Wrestle Shelton Benjamin – boom. Wrestle in front of 15,000 people – boom. I was on or around Monday Night Raw. So I was checking off a lot of things on the trip. That trip meant a lot to me.

“It was real cool. Hopefully one of these days him and I get to run it back.”
