Former WWE Star Not Closing The Door On Future In Pro-Wrestling

A former WWE star is not closing the door on a future in pro-wrestling despite a lack of matches since his exit from the company.

In July 2024, Bobby Steveson – known in NXT as Damon Kemp – announced that he’d be leaving WWE due to the company’s decision to not renew his contract.

He’s only had two matches on record in the almost two years since then, which both came in November 2025.

Those matches were for the Wrestle Against Hunger promotion and saw him team with former WWE stars Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson in an eight-man tag team match.

With that being he only weekend he’s worked since his WWE exit, he has now commented on whether he sees a future in pro-wrestling.

In an interview with Wrestling With Heart, Steveson said:

“I did a match a few months ago in November. I enjoyed it. It was different, because I never did the indies so it was different vibes.

“I graduated college and then I went, in a way, to the big leagues, I got to skip that route of the indies. I just didn’t know what to expect because I was used to seeing how WWE ran things, how everyone’s so hands-on and giving direction.

“And then I did this show, there’s really no direction, which kind of felt good because I felt less stressed showing up. Granted, you’re not putting on a show in front of 15,000 people and 3 million people at home watching.

“So it was less stressful and it was more enjoyable too, because I could just go out there and have fun, and then just drink beers after. So it was fun.

“(The door) is not closed. I’ve kinda got my mind focused on other things right now. I’ve been talking to some places here and there, but it’s not closed. A lot of bookings I just haven’t taken, that’s just kinda on me.

“If a good opportunity presents itself to wrestle or get with another company and things of that nature, fine. If not, I’m perfectly fine with the door closing, but I wouldn’t want the door to close because I feel like I got pretty good at pro-wrestling and I actually enjoyed it too.

“So if an opportunity does present itself, I am available.”

WWE Loses Potential Future Star?

While not everyone with a background in amateur wrestling has the aptitude for pro-wrestling, Bobby Steveson/Damon Kemp was one of the names who did seem to pick it up fast.

That made WWE’s decision to let him go quite a surprising one – and it wasn’t just fans who were caught off guard, as Steveson himself has said previously that he’d been told he’d be re-signed, only to then hear the opposite news.

If Steveson does have plans to return to pro-wrestling, he could still have a bright future in the business.
