It has emerged that former WWE star Curtis Axel was arrested earlier this month in the state of Minnesota.
Axel, real name Joseph Curtis Hennig, was arrested on May 17 in Anoka County on DUI/DWI charges.
The charges are listed as follows:
Traffic-DUI-Third-Degree Driving While Impaired-Refuse to submit to chemical test – Gross Misdemeanour
Traffic – DWI – Refuse to submit to chemical test; Breath or test refusal or failure – Gross Misdemeanour
Obstruct Legal Process-Lawful Execution Legal Process – Misdemeanour
Traffic-Open bottle law-Possession-crime described – Misdemeanour
Traffic-Accidents-Driver Involved Fails to Stop for Accident to Property-No injury – Misdemeanour
Joseph Hennig is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Curt Hennig, otherwise known as Mr Perfect.
Joseph first signed with WWE in 2007, debuting on the main roster in 2010 under the name Michael McGillicutty before being repackaged as Curtis Axel in 2013.
After being repackaged as Curtis Axel, it appeared he may have been set for a major push as he was immediately aligned with Paul Heyman and had matches against the likes of Triple H and John Cena on Raw.
However, an Intercontinental Title reign ended up being his ceiling and he ultimately ended up in a comedy role for most of his tenure.
During his time in WWE, he held the aforementioned Intercontinental Championship, the WWE Tag Team Championship with David Otunga, and the Raw Tag Team Championship with Bo Dallas.
He was released by WWE in April 2020 and has only wrestled once on record since then, which was a match in Bloomington, Minnesota for Midwest All Star Wrestling in May 2025, when he teamed with former NXT star Cal Bloom (Von Wagner) in a win against Aaron Arsenal and Lennox Leone.
We’ll provide any further updates on this story as they emerge.
