The WWE debut for former AEW International, Tag Team and Trios Champion Rey Fenix has now officially been confirmed.
Over the past few weeks, teaser videos have been airing on SmackDown hyping up the arrival of Rey Fenix, and today’s featured a major announcement.
Fenix’s official WWE arrival will take place on next Friday’s April 4 episode of SmackDown, taking place in Chicago, Illinois.
Today’s video also confirmed he will be keeping the Rey Fenix name.
Fenix was originally planned to join WWE at the same time as his real-life brother and tag team partner, Penta.
However, Fenix had injury time added to his AEW contract, meaning he was locked into the company for several months after Penta’s deal had already ended.
This led to Penta making his WWE debut alone on Raw, having picked up some big momentum since then.
It appears WWE doesn’t want to interrupt that monentum, hence why Fenix is debuting on SmackDown separate from Penta instead of reuniting with him immediately.
Today’s SmackDown also featured another teaser video for the WWE return of another former AEW star, Malakai/Aleister Black, but there’s still no official date for when he’ll be back.
