Scrapped plans for Cody Rhodes on the March 7 episode of WWE SmackDown have now been revealed.
After being blindsided with a brutal three-on-one attack from John Cena, The Rock and Travis Scott at Elimination Chamber, Cody Rhodes appeared on the March 7 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
Sporting a black eye, Rhodes cut an impassioned promo on Cena ahead of their Undisputed WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 41, in which he promised victory against his former idol in Las Vegas.
While Rhodes’ promo saw a great response from the fans in Philadelphia, The American Nightmare was reportedly originally set for another segment on Friday’s show.
According to Fightful Select, Rhodes was also originally listed to appear in a backstage segment with R-Truth on SmackDown’s internal run sheets, however, this wouldn’t end up happening.
When Fightful asked why the segment was scrapped they didn’t get a firm answer, but speculation was that it would have “affected the gravity of Rhodes promo before”.
Truth has long played up his ‘childhood’ idolisation for Cena on WWE TV, with the veteran star being among the names to respond to Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber.
