Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk has now commented following his appearance at a recent NXT house show.
WWE previously announced that CM Punk would be making an appearance at the August 15 non-televised NXT live event in Petersburg, Virginia.
With it not being confirmed whether or not Punk would wrestle at the event, the WWE Champion ultimately did compete in six-man tag-team action.
Punk teamed with NXT Tag Team Champions Tavion Heights & Myles Borne against Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes of the Vanity Project.
The Undisputed WWE Champion’s side picked up the victory, with a selfie doing the rounds online featuring CM Punk and a number of NXT stars in the ring.
CM Punk has now taken to his Instagram story to share a message following his NXT return, writing:
“Thank you to all the fans who came out tonight. You were BEAUTS. Amazing energy. Thank you Petersburg VA! Special thank you to all @wwenxt talent and crew.
“My heart is so full. I love this. I am so grateful, and appreciative of everyone’s hard work. What a life!”
This appearance marked CM Punk’s first in-ring outing for NXT since wrestling Antonio Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli) to a no-contest in a dark match at the August 23, 2012 taping.
Punk became Undisputed WWE Champion on the July 6 Raw episode, defeating Sami Zayn for the gold in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
He defended the gold against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, with a returning Randy Orton costing the American Nightmare the match.
Punk has stated several times since then that he will give Rhodes a title rematch any time he wants.
Before then, both Rhodes and Punk are preparing for big one-on-one matches against other stars. Cody Rhodes will face Randy Orton in a WrestleMania 42 rematch at Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced this bout on social media.
Meanwhile, CM Punk’s next Undisputed WWE Championship defense will be against Kevin Owens, who won a #1 contender’s match against Finn Balor, Sami Zayn and GUNTHER at SummerSlam on August 2.
This match will take place on the August 21 SmackDown event in Owens’ home country of Canada, with the show to emanate from Toronto.
Kevin Owens recently referred to a legitimate incident between himself and CM Punk which happened prior to their WWE runs, click here to read more.
