Change To Two WWE Championships Confirmed

A change to the status of two championships in WWE has now been confirmed after a show was recently canceled.

Last year, WWE entered a partnership with X to launch WWE Speed, a weekly show that featured three to five minute matches, and exclusive WWE Speed Championships.

A couple of months ago, that partnership came to an end, and the Speed matches airing on X were discontinued.

An announcement was soon made that NXT would hold a tournament to determine the next challenge for the Speed Women’s Championship, which is held by NXT’s Sol Ruca.

The tournament has been taking place over the past couple of weeks and has come down to Lainey Reid vs Candice LeRae to determine who will challenge Ruca for the title at No Mercy.

Ruca has also started wearing the title belt on TV – previously, neither Speed Championship had been seen on TV as X had exclusivity, so the champions never wore their belts outside of Speed matches.

However, with that announcement for the women, there were still question marks over the men’s WWE Speed Championship, which is held by El Grande Americano.

Today, WWE’s website has updated its listings to confirm that both the men’s and women’s Speed Titles are officially considered to be part of NXT, not the main roster.

There’s been no mention on NXT of the men’s title or a tournament to crown the next challenger, but that will likely take place after the women’s tournament culminates at No Mercy on September 27.
