On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes teamed up against DIY in tag team action, with Hayes picking up the win for the team.
Following their victory, it was announced that Dragunov would once again host a United States Championship Open Challenge on next week’s episode of the show.
The challenge was answered by Carmelo Hayes himself, who would go on to score the victory, defeating Dragunov to capture the United States Championship, his first championship in his main roster career.
Dragunov won the United States Championship from Sami Zayn upon his return from injury back in October, and has continued on issuing Open Challenges for the title.
