Carmelo Hayes has broken his silence after losing the WWE United States Championship on the Friday, March 27 episode of SmackDown.

In reaction to earning his way onto the WrestleMania 42 card, Zayn thanked his fans following a “tough” spell in his career.

Posting on Twitter, Zayn wrote:

Big thank you to my fans. These past few months especially have been tumultuous, and you’ve had my back when times were tough.

Now we are heading to Wrestlemania together, and I am walking in as a champion.

While Zayn hasn’t addressed Hayes, Trick Williams was asked about his former tag team partner’s US Title loss just shy of WrestleMania 42 during an interview with Hot 97.

Speaking out of character, Williams said that Hayes “deserves” his moment after his “great” run with the US Title:

“Me and Melo, we go way back of course and I would love to see him get his moment, and he deserves that.

“And you never know he probably still will. He carried that US Title great, so he deserves that moment, I’m sure he’s gonna get his moment.”

Will Carmelo Hayes Get What He “Deserves” At WrestleMania 42?

At the time of writing there has been no announcements regarding Hayes potentially being added into Sami Zayn and Trick Williams’ United States Championship Match at WrestleMania 42.

However, considering that Hayes only lost the gold due to interference from Trick Williams, it seems as if there is a decent chance that WWE could do just that on this Friday’s SmackDown.

Fans have been vocal in their support for Melo since his loss, with former WWE star Bishop Dyer (Baron Corbin) joining in by voicing his displeasure with the company’s decision to have the 31-year-old drop his gold.

As Dyer noted on social media, Hayes, along with Ilja Dragunov, has been instrumental in restoring the prestige of the United States Championship by putting on show-stealing matches on a week-to-week basis.

Fans understandably expected WWE would allow Hayes to do that once more at WrestleMania, but as of right now Hayes is set to sit out of a second-straight WrestleMania.
