An update has emerged regarding potential plans for Brock Lesnar ahead of the September 5 episode of WWE SmackDown in Chicago.
Tomorrow night’s SmackDown is a highly anticipated one, with John Cena and CM Punk confirmed for the show, and AJ Lee potentially making her long-awaited WWE return after a decade away.
However, this may not be all that fans will see during tomorrow’s broadcast, as Fightful Select is now reporting that Brock Lesnar is expected to be in Chicago ahead of SmackDown.
Lesnar is scheduled to travel to Chicago this week, with sources in WWE telling Fightful that an appearance on SmackDown has been discussed as a possibility.
Lesnar is being advertised for the September 12 and 19 episodes of SmackDown, but has not been advertised for tomorrow’s.
As reported today by WrestleVotes, Cena’s appearance on SmackDown could be his last in WWE, with Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live revealing that the 17-time world champion is set to be classed as a Raw talent for the remainder of his farewell tour.
Lesnar made his return to WWE after a two year absence at SummerSlam 2025 Night Two, attacking John Cena following his Undisputed WWE Championship match with Cody Rhodes.
While Cena transitioned into a feud with Logan Paul after SumnerSlam, it has been reported that Cena vs. Lesnar is planned for WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20 in Indianapolis.
According to Fightful, WWE intentionally hoped to load tomorrow night’s SmackDown up ahead of Wrestlepalooza, which is also intentionally being loaded up.
After a break following SummerSlam 2023, Lesnar was scheduled for a return to WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble, but was pulled from the show due to being referred to in the sexual abuse & trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE that was filed days prior. During his two-year absence, Lesnar had remained listed on the current WWE roster on the company’s official website.
