WWE NXT Dec 16 Thea Hail wins WWE NXT Women's North American Title from Blake Monroe

Blake Monroe has reacted to her controversial WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship loss during the December 16 episode of NXT.

In the opening contest of last night’s show, Blake Monroe made her second televised defense of the WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship, taking on Thea Hail.

While many fans will have expected Monroe to retain given that she was under two months into her first run with WWE gold, it was in fact Hail who got the win, albeit in confusing circumstances.

After performing a springboard Coffin Drop, Hail pinned Monroe’s shoulders to the mat, with the champion only kicking out after the referee had already counted the three.

This led to a moment of confusion from all involved, seemingly including WWE’s own production team as they played Blake Monroe’s music at first rather than Hail’s.

A visibly surprised Hail then paraded around the ring in celebration over her own first taste of championship gold in WWE, while Monroe looked on with displeasure.

Monroe would later confront Hail and Jordynne Grace after the loss during a backstage interview segment, demanding a rematch.

While that match has yet to be confirmed, Monroe did take to Twitter in reaction to the loss.

She wrote:

not the first time i’ve been screwed
