Becky Lynch has admitted she briefly considered crossing over into MMA whilst working with Ronda Rousey in WWE.
After a groundbreaking UFC run in the 2010s that saw her become the most recognisable name in female mixed martial arts and an eventual UFC Hall of Famer, Ronda Rousey stepped out of the octagon and into the squared circle.
After making her first appearance at the 2018 Royal Rumble, Rousey teamed with Kurt Angle to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in mixed tag team action at WrestleMania 34, before capturing the WWE Raw Women’s Title four months later at SummerSlam 2018.
During the latest episode of What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon, Stephanie named her training with Ronda ahead of their WrestleMania 34 match as the time she realised she didn’t need to wrestle anymore.
McMahon said:
“It was funny because I had been training for Ronda and working with Ronda, at the time it was her first match.
“It was a little stiff on occasion, I’m sure she didn’t mean it that way, and even her soft probably just felt stiff. It was rough for three months, it was three months that I trained and had this match.
“Afterwards I was a little like ‘You know what I’m good. I don’t think I need to wrestle anymore.’ I used to love to take bumps, it was like my favorite thing. And then I was like ‘Maybe I don’t have that itch anymore.’”

McMahon’s guest on the show Becky Lynch would then share her own experience working with Rousey, but unlike Stephanie it she was inspired, albeit briefly, to crossover into Rousey’s world of MMA after taking a beating from the former UFC Champion in WWE.
Lynch said:
“You know wrestling her (Ronda Rousey), there was one time when she beat me up and I remember thinking, not because I could fight back but I was like ‘Aw, I could take a beating, maybe I could go into MMA. I think I could take it.
“And then that lasted one week. Actually one week is generous.”

Lynch famously pinned Rousey in the main event of WrestleMania 35 to become the WWE Raw & SmackDown Women’s Champion, a match that also featured Charlotte Flair.
That match was Rousey’s last in WWE for almost three years before she returned to the company at the 2022 Royal Rumble, beginning a run that lasted until her eventual WWE departure after SummerSlam 2023.
Rousey did make a return to the wrestling world at AEW Revolution in March to confront Timeless Toni Storm, but that appearance has not yet lead to any other appearances.
