New Women’s Intercontinental Champion AJ Lee has revealed her initial expectations for her return to WWE last year.
After over a decade away from the company, and wrestling as a whole, AJ Lee made her return to WWE on the September 5, 2025 episode of SmackDown to back up her husband CM Punk against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Almost six months on from her subsequent in-ring return at Wrestlepalooza 2025, AJ has competed in her first WarGames Match and now won her first title in WWE in 12 years at last night’s Elimination Chamber 2026 PLE.
Speaking with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant on WWE Now, AJ was asked if she’s been pulled back in by wrestling after her first title win since 2014.
AJ responded:
“Kind of but I’m keeping very kind to myself and kind to my heart and just saying I’m not expecting anything.
“I’m not going to plan too far ahead I’m just gonna give every moment my best and maybe every moment is my last moment but I’m gonna try and make it count.”

AJ then detailed her low expectations for her return when she first came back ahead of Wrestlepalooza:
“I kind of thought I was just gonna come in and have this tag match and defend my husband’s honor and I’ve just been having so much fun that I keep coming back.
“We’ll see what happens, but this has been really cool, really healing in a lot of ways too.”

Following her loss to AJ Lee, Becky Lynch has since gone on a social media tirade against WWE Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and referee Jessika Carr, to which Pearce responded by trolling “The Man” – click here for full details.
